CO-PO attainment calculations Part-I
CO-PO attainment
calculations Part-I
Assessment
of learning outcomes is the key criterion in the Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi adopted OBE for all its
diploma, degree and postgraduate programmes. Course outcomes (CO) are the
attributes that the student is expected to have at the time of course
completion. COs are expected to be calculated at the end of course. It is done for every course in curriculum.
Programme outcomes (PO) are the attributes that graduate is expected to
possess at the end of programme completion. NBA, New Delhi defined 1-12 POs and
additional 2 to 4 Programme specific outcomes (PSO) are expected to be defined
by the programme. For attainment calculations of POs matrix of CO-PO is
essential. Proper emphasis should be given in CO-PO matrix. A method to
evaluate the attainment of the COs and POS has been presented for understanding
of faculty members. Both direct and indirect methods of attainment calculations
with their emphasis are discussed. The findings are then used for continuous
quality improvement.
